Kindred Essay

Have you ever noticed that me these days are being very abusive to woman? Well in my opinion I believe that some men are abusive to woman because they think they have more power and woman won’t do anything because they are afraid of the consequences. For example in the book Kindred, Rufus is a white man who does this kind of woman abuse to Alice(a black woman)and forces her to have sex with him but she does not want to.

 Octavia Butler is a woman who wrote the book Kindred that has many massages. The main message I think is important is that people shouldn't force sex. A reason I picked this message is because when I hear things like this in the news or in articles about raping or sexual abuse makes me feel bad and help the community to stop this oppression. Another reason why I picked this message was because it also makes me want to transform this situation by stopping violence against woman.

 Another example of the book kindred of woman abuse was when Tom Wheylin caught Dana teaching Nigel how to read, so when Tom saw Dana he started hitting her till she starts bleeding and throwing up. And one more example of woman abuse is that at the end of the book when Rufus wants to do the same thing to Dana what he did to Alice in the cook house, and then she ended up killing him even though they use to be best friends. From the book Kindred I think that Dana is a very strong woman who offends herself and protects others because she cares about them and she also cares a lot about her culture. Every time she would transport back to the, that would mean that Rufus is in trouble and she saves him.

At the end of the chapter Rufus tells Dana that she should do everything he tells her to do and she will take care of his children but Dana does not want to. Then Dana and Rufus are talking in the cook house and Rufus tries to rape her but then Rufus gets on top of Dana and she grabbed a knife and stabs him on the back but he doesn’t let go until she kills him and she transports back without an arm. From this I learned that Dana didn’t wanted to get rape and was protecting herself because I believe that Dana is a woman who doesn’t have to be abused by any other men and this makes me feel bad because when this will happen to me I would do the same thing Dpana did(kill the man).

AT THE SANTA CRUZ BEACH BOARDWALK THE RIDES WERE CLOSE BUT WE WENT TO THE CASINO AND PLAYED ALOT OF GAMES THERE.WHEN WE WENT INSIDE THE CASINO WE EXITIT FAST AND WENT OUSIDE SLAPPING MY PHONE (HEARING MUSIC) THEN WE WENT BACK TO THE CASINO AND ME CLAUDIA AND CLARISSA  PAYED $4 TO PLAY LAZER TAG WITH OTHER STUDENTS AND IT WAS BOYS VS GIRLS. IT WAS HEKA FUN  BECAUSE I WAS RUNNING ALL OVER THE PLASE CAUSE I WASNT TRYING TO GET SHOT BY A LAZER. THEN ME CLAUDIA AND CLARISSA WENT TO THE BOW;ING PLACE AND I BOUGHT NACHOS AND A SMALL SPRITE THEN IVONNE CAME TO JACK SOME OF MY NACHOS AND I DIDNT EAVEN NOTICED. THEN WE WENT UPSTAIRS OF THE CASINO AND WE WERE PLAYING AROUD WITH THE ELEVATOR WITH BRAYANT. THEN I SAW LUPE AND MAYRA PLAYING A GAME AND NEX THING YOU KNOW LUPE FELL. THEN IT WAS ALREADY 9:00 AND WE WENT TO THE HOTEL. MY ROOM MATES WERE CLAUDIA,CLARISSA AND MAYRA.  WHEN MAYRA WAS FALLING ASLEEP I STARTED SCARRING HER SAYING THAT THERES A MONSTER UNDER HER BED AND SHE WANTED TO CRY. THEN I STAND UP AND WENT TO THE BATHROOM AN THE ROOM WAS ALMOST PITCH BLACK AND I WAS STANDING BESIDES HER AND SHE DIDNT EAVEN NOTICED SO I GRABED HER ARM AND YELLED HER NAME MAYRA AND SHE WAS SCREAMING AND SHE WAS ABOUT TO CRY. THEN I SCARED HER AGAIN BY SAYING "MAYRA I FEEL LIKE WE ARE BEING WATCHED BY AN OLD MAN" AND SHE SAID "NO HEIDI STOP SCARING ME IMA CRY!" AND SHE ACTUALLY SOUNDED LIKE SHE WANTED TO CRY. SO ME CLAUDIA AND CLARISSA STARTED TO CRACK UP. I JUST WISH WE COULD GO BACK AND STAY LONGER SO I KAN SCARE MAYRA AGAIN.

Expo Reflection

In my opinion i think that expo was fun because i had English presentation first. on the English presentation me and my group were discussing about drugs and alcohol with our parents. then i went to my science presentation. and on that one it wasn't that good because mostly the boys were playing around and my mom got kinda disappointed. then i went to my math presentation. on that one  me and my group were playing a game of jeopardy and we won a UPA t-shirt and my mom was so proud of me that she even gave me a kiss on the cheek. And my last presentation was the history class. we had to show our  parents our art picture we drew and me, Ivonne, and Mishel drew a slave because supposively the teacher video taped us saying we were a slave. me and my group were very proud of our drawing because it looked very realistic. 

Freedom

Everyone needs to bee free. Some slaves use to feel like birds in cages but for slaves they use to torture them by hitting them.I had to listen to a master for the rest of my life. That’s why I can’t vote or visit my family and I really miss them. That’s why in the future I want my children to be free and happy without being a slave.
